LOW TIDE
ART STORY
This piece is inspired by the moment a wave pulls back from the shore.
A diagonal band of colour moves across the fabric, from warm sand, ochre and copper through soft grey and slate to teal and moss green, with fine dark lines tracing the edge of the water. On either side, open pale space is left to breathe, like wet sand after the tide has retreated: quiet, luminous and still glistening. The space is as much a part of the work as the colour, giving the eye somewhere to rest. What leaves always returns.

RESTORED FRAME
This frame began as an older timber frame with a stepped, moulded profile and a warm, honey-toned grain. It has been carefully restored in my Western Australian studio. Old nails and hardware were removed, the timber was cleaned and, where needed, lightly sanded, then brought back with Danish oil, which deepens the grain and protects the wood. The small knots and marks were kept, because they are part of what makes this frame its own. New hanging hardware has been fitted so the finished piece is secure and ready to display.
CAREFULLY FINISHED
Each artwork is finished and protected using acid-free, buffered framing paper. The paper provides a protective backing while allowing the framed piece to breathe, creating a considered finish designed to protect the artwork over time.
RECLAIMED STORY
This piece brings together two reclaimed materials with a new purpose. The artwork is created from rescued premium fabric, hand-dyed and transformed into textile art, then housed in a hand-selected frame that has been given a second life. By combining existing materials rather than producing new ones, each piece diverts usable resources from landfill while creating something entirely original.
Due to the organic nature of ice-dyeing and the sourcing of quality reclaimed frames, these statement pieces are fundamentally unique and cannot be replicated. Each piece represents a unique expression of renewal and possibility.
This artwork is available for local collection from Coolbellup, Western Australia. Interstate and international freight may be available by arrangement. Contact Us About Delivery Options.
In keeping with the Aloka & Sol ethos, artwork is displayed using licensed interior photography to provide scale and styling reference. The interiors shown are real photographs sourced through licensed providers that support the photographers and creators behind them.
